Director of Finance

Markstein is seeking a director of finance with 7-10 years of experience to support us in managing and charting our short- and long-term growth. Successful candidates will be self-starters who thrive in a highly collaborative, multi-faceted and fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will provide subject matter expertise and guidance regarding all finance-related decisions while developing financial models, forecasts, proposals, presentations and performance measures to provide insight to leadership team regarding financial decisions. Successful candidates will have a broad base of experience that includes forecasting and controlling expenses against budget, financial planning and analysis of the business as well as the potential for some M&A work.

Experience in an agency environment, specifically with Advantage, Strata and other agency-specific accounting platforms a strong plus.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Controller functions
  • Overall management of project budgeting and job costing
  • Set and manage expense controls
  • Banking relationships
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Overseeing client invoicing and account projections
  • Cash flow management
  • Payroll
  • Financial planning and analysis
  • Produce rolling P&L forecasts monthly
  • Provide bridge and gap analysis on key metrics every month
  • Assess ROI or IRR for existing areas or new initiatives
  • Work with CPA firm to optimize company tax planning
  • Manage the balance sheet, including AR and AP
  • Innovatively chart a financial strategy that supports the strategic plan of the agency to include:
    • Raising working capital
    • Debt options
    • Mergers and acquisition support
    • Creative company structures including sub subsidiaries or separate companies

  • Extensive Microsoft Office Suite experience required and advanced excel
  • Ability to work within a fast-moving, growing team
  • Ability to work with integrity, professionalism, discretion and sensitivity to confidentiality at all times
  • Strong work ethic
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting and supervisory experience
