Supporting a national rebrand and executing communication strategies

About This Project

When HealthSouth, a national leader in post-acute care, rebranded to Encompass Health (EHC), it turned to Markstein to help introduce its new brand to millions across the healthcare industry.  

We developed custom ads for each hospital and region and applied new branding to multiple unique audiences, including patient/caregivers, acute care hospital executives and case workers/referring clinicians. To improve employee engagement and retention, Markstein developed content for EHC’s Outstanding Employee Achievement Awards and an internal campaign theme, “Powered by Nurses,” highlighting the critical role and impact of the company’s nurses. We also led the organization’s first-ever lead generation campaign, using social media ads to drive direct correlations to admitted patients. Our earned media strategy positioned team members as industry experts, and we continuously engaged potential employee prospects through thought leadership, awards and spotlights.  

Additional activities:  

  • Developed social media content and a response protocol   
  • Drafted magazine, newsletter and intranet articles for an employee app  
  • Conducted internal focus groups and developed employee personas  
  • Supported the creation of a company values report and multiple diversity campaigns  
  • Supported submissions to Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work survey  
  • Produced multiple videos on various topics including the patient journey and proprietary predictive analytics tools  

Successfully supported the national rollout of the Encompass Health brand, driving awareness across key audiences while strengthening employee engagement and establishing scalable strategies for ongoing marketing, recruitment, and lead generation efforts.
